Hershey, PA, population 14,500, was founded in 1903 by chocolatier Milton Hershey as a model town for his factory employees. Here in 1931
Q1. For several years, commenters on Reddit and other social media have complained that Reese's candy tasted off, alleging something had changed with the ingredients.

Last week, Brad Reese, grandson of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups inventor HB Reese, accused Reese’s owner Hershey of changing the recipes for multiple Reese’s product lines, including Reese’s Take 5, White Reese’s, and Reese's Fast Break Bars.

In response, Hershey acknowledged switching some ingredients and committed to reversing the changes, but denied Reese's Peanut Butter Cups were among those with changed ingredients.

Have you noticed anything different about Reese's Peanut Butter Cups over the past few years?

(Note: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups regularly top “favorite candy” surveys including our Halloween Candy tournament)

Q2. Last week, a toddler at Hersheypark’s Zoo America squeezed through a small opening in the wooden perimeter fence around the wolf enclosure and reached through the primary fence, where a wolf grabbed the child's hand with its mouth. Several bystanders pulled the child away with only minor injuries to the toddler.

Investigators say the child’s parents were 25 to 30 feet away from their 17-month-old at the time of the incident and appeared to be on their phones. The parents have been charged with endangering the welfare of a child

In Pennsylvania that crime is generally a first-degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to five years in prison and $10,000 in fines. It becomes a third-degree felony with up to seven years in prison if there is a "course of conduct" or if the child is under six years old.

Assuming this is a first offense, how much jail time, if any, do you think the parents should face?

Q3. Last year, Constellation Energy struck a deal to revive the Unit 1 reactor at Three Mile Island, twelve miles from Hershey, PA and site of the country's worst nuclear power accident. The Unit 2 reactor was shut down after a partial core meltdown in 1979, which led to several days of panic.

Unit 1, which sits next to Unit 2, and was undamaged in the 1979 accident, continued to operate until 2019, when it was closed for economic reasons. Microsoft has contracted with Constellation to buy all Unit 1's output over the next twenty years to power in its AI data centers.

Last week Constellation announced Unit 1 is expected to reopen some time in 2027, about a year ahead schedule.

Do you have any qualms about candy made in a factory twelve miles from a nuclear plant?
