Q1. In January, nineteen states raised their minimum wage (see image). Thirty states now have a higher minimum wage than the federal minimum of $7.25/hr, which was last raised in 2009. Washington has the highest state-level minimum wage at $17.13.
Earlier this week, the New York City Council introduced a bill to raise NYC's minimum wage to the highest in the country for any city or state, to $30 by 2030. LA will go to $30 by 2028 for hotel and airport workers. Seattle has the highest rate of any city currently, at $21.3.

Q2. In February, it was reported by multiple sources that President Trump is considering an executive order requiring US banks obtain proof of citizenship for any new or existing account holders. Real IDs, which do not prove citizenship, would not be eligible.
Banks are already responsible for verifying that the source of a customers funds are legal via Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Client (KYC) laws, but not to ascertain citizenship.
Advocates say mandating proof of citizenship would help cut down on illegal immigration, and allow for a tax on the cash non-citizens send to their home country. Opponents say it would place an impossible burden on banks to collect such proof for all account holders, many of whom don't have a passport, birth certificate or other eligible form of proof.
For whom do you think banks should be required to determine citizenship status?

Q3. Earlier this month, Senator Chris Van Hollen (D, MD) introduced a bill that would make the first $46k of income tax-free for individuals ($92k for married couples) while increassing the tax rate on income over $1m from 37% to 42%.
Earlier this month, the Washington state legislature passed a bill initiating a 9.9% tax on income greater than $1m. If Democratic Governor Bob Ferguson signs the bill into law, as expected, it would reduce the number of states with no income tax from nine to eight.
