Q1. Earlier this month, fast food chain Wendy's announced they were going to introduce "dynamic pricing" in 2025.

Typically "dynamic pricing" means increasing prices during times of peak demand, as utilities, ride sharing, and other industries do. However, after receiving blowback, including Burger King tweeting "We don't believe in charging people more when they're hungry," Wendy's said they meant they wouldn't surge prices at times of high demand, but rather offer discounts during slow periods.

Do you think dynamic pricing will come to more restaurants, and if so would it be a plus or minus for consumers?

Q2. Oprah Winfrey had been a prominent spokesperson for Weight Watchers since joining its board a decade ago, and owned a 10% stake in the company. She credited their program with helping her lose forty pounds.

However, in December she revealed she started taking a GLP-1 weight loss drug (e.g. Wegovy), and last week announced she was stepping down from Weight Watcher's board. Her contract with the company prohibited her from using a weight loss program other than Weight Watchers.

Winfrey said it was important to recognize obesity as a chronic condition, and that a medically approved prescription for managing weight "feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind."

Which part of Winfrey's statement do you agree with, and do you think her statement will increase demand for GLP-1s?

Q3. In New York's borough of Manhattan, the commercial real estate vacancy rate is 20%, twice what it was pre-Covid.

At least one major developer suggests the unused office space will be used for "vertical farming," the practice of growing crops stacked indoors, using LED grow lights, and soilless methods such as hydroponics.

Vertical farming is expected to be a $10 billion industry worldwide by 2026, up from $3 billion in 2021.

Do you see a meaningful portion of US big-city office space being used for vertical farming?
