Q2. On March 31 the Biden administration said the US will release 1 million barrels of oil per day from the strategic reserve for the next six months. Oil prices fell 5% after the announcement, and are currently another 1% lower.

The US uses about 20mm barrels of oil a day, the world uses about 100mm. The US reserve contains about 600mm barrels.

Was the release the right size, and will it impact gas prices in a meaningful way?

Q3. Nord Stream 2, a gas pipeline project designed to double the flow of Russian gas directly to Germany, was completed in September. It was idle pending certification until February, when in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Germany halted the project.

Russian gas accounts for about 10% of Germany's electricity generation. The gas from Nord Stream 2 could not be soon replaced, but could eventually be replaced by gas exported from the US among other countries, or by recommissioning German nuclear plants, or restarting dormant coal plants.

What is your view of Germany halting Nord Stream 2?
