Q1. The US and its allies have banned the export of certain high tech hardware and software to Russia that that country needs for its military planes, tanks and communications. Will this be effective in reducing Russia's willingness to prosecute the war in Ukraine?

Q2. Last month China touted a deep connection with Russia, saying their friendship had "no limits." It is now being reported that Russia is asking China to help fill the void left by the Western tech export embargo. Your view? (Please choose three, one from each pair)

Q3. If China does export to Russia the military technology it seeks, will it help China as it expands its exports and gains the dependence of Russia, or harm China because it becomes the target of sanctions itself?

The main Chinse stock index has dropped 10% since it became likely Russia would ask for their military help. In that period the main US stock index has dropped 2.5%. Since Russia amassed troops on Ukraine's border the Chinese index has dropped 20%, the US 12%.

This is not to say with certainty that the Russian invasion has been worse for the Chinese economy than the US — there are many factors that contribute to stock prices, and stock prices are not always accurate predictions of future economic performance.
