Raters Gonna Rate

Some of you will have noticed that on our website you can rate “entities.” Entities are our name for poll topics, and include People, Organizations, Locations, Ideas, Publications, and Movies.

There are two means by which you can rate entities. One is to go to our Quickpoll page, where you will find Ratings polls amidst other types of Quickpolls.

The Ratings Quickpolls group entities along lines such as US presidents, Medal of Freedom recipients, Irish Americans, or Freemasons

Freemasons

If you're a movie buff, you can find lists including Roger Ebert favorites, The Movie Database least favorites, films directed by Martin Scorcese, or the 400 best according to the American Film Institute.

The other way to rate an entity is to go to their entity page, which you can acess by typing the name of the entity, Elon Musk for example, into the search box. On the entity page you will find summary information about the entity, the polls that entity is in, the lists in which that entity is a member (by clicking "Tags"), and the abilty to rate and comment on the entity.

Three tips before you start rating:

  • When in Ratings Quickpolls, you can filter entities to view all in the list, or just those you've yet to rate, or just those you've already rated.
  • If you aren't familiar with an entity, please select the "not familiar with" option (the silhouette with a question mark to the left of the stars) rather than not rating it.
  • If you'd like to know more about an entity you see in a Ratings Quickpoll, click the entity and a flip side will appear with more information.

The Why

The idea in offering ratings is that they are a convenient way for users to supply their opinions, and with more opinions, we can offer users more interesting information.

Some users are familiar with our efforts on this front via our Research polls. When you complete a Research poll you’ll see what your answers say about you, and what the answers in aggregate say about the general population.

We hope to provide similar information with ratings polls, however to do so we need many more ratings replies than we currently have. Thus we humbly ask you rate some entities and we will let you know when we have enough data to provide meaningful results.

As always, if you have any feedback or suggestions with regard to Ratings, or any of our polls, features, or data, please let us know at contact@fatfingerdata.com
